From the airport to the city center - using public transport services of BKV

If you visit Hungary and arrive to Liszt Ferenc International Airport, public transport services of BKV offer you a good alternative to reach the city centre. 



From 4AM to 11 PM you can travel by bus 200E from Liszt Ferenc International Airport Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 to Kőbánya-Kispest metro station. To the city centre take metro line M3. You may change from M3 to M1 or M2 at Deák Ferenc tér. Bus 200E runs with the frequency of 8-12 minutes daytime, and 15-20 minutes in the evening.

During the late night hours (from 11PM to 4AM) you can travel by bus service 900 between Liszt Ferenc International Airport Terminal 2 and the bus garage in Dél-Pest, with frequency of 30 or 60 minutes. We provide connection for the buses 950 and 950A at the bus stop of Bajcsy-Zsilinszky út. Passengers travelling to the airport may change from bus 950 or 950A to bus 900 at Honvéd utca (Üllői út).






How do I get tickets?

At the airport you can buy single tickets at the post office, newsagents, and Tourinform agency daytime. More information about Budapest public transport is available at the Tourinform office. You can also buy 24 hour transport card there.

In addition, single tickets may be purchased on the buses 200E and 900; furthermore you can buy tickets from the ticket vending machines operating in 24 hours at Terminal 2.

Please, do not forget to validate your tickets at any time you change vehicles.

Tickets are also available on the bus directly from the driver. For more detailed information on the use of public transport please visit the Tourinform offices at the terminals.

Luggage: As on the airplane there are rules concerning the luggage also on the vehicles of BKV. Without paying extra fare, each passenger can carry at most 2 pieces of luggage in the sizes not exceeding 40x50x80 cm or 20x20x200 cm and which is, to the maximum extent, as heavy as one person can carry in a way that it does not inhibit passengers from boarding or alighting the vehicle.

Ticket types recommended for tourists:



You can use the tickets for all tram, metro, trolley bus and bus services of BKV Zrt. on the entire length of the lines and within the city boundaries of Budapest on HÉV trains. Because of our relatively complicated ticket system we recommend our Customers visiting Budapest to buy and use our 24- or 72-hour travel cards, 24-hour group travel card, 7-day travel cards or Budapest Cards as you can use these ticket types more simply for unlimited number of journeys within their validity time and without ticket validation. The 24-hour and 7-day travel cards and Budapest passes are valid within Budapest for certain services of Volánbusz and MÁV-Start, as well. 

E.g.: Using a Budapest 24-hour travel card you can take a train from Terminal 1 to Nyugati railway station, then you can use the card all day for travelling on BKV services. In case you decide to buy single tickets, please read carefully the Terms and Conditions of Travelling.

Surcharge information: Please make sure that your pass or ticket is valid before you use our services. Customers travelling without a valid ticket or pass have to pay a surcharge. The surcharge paid on the spot is HUF 8,000. Customers having a permanent residence in Hungary can pay the surcharge afterwards if they provide their personal data. From 11th January 2011 the BKV ticket inspectors carry out their duties accompanied by the officials of the "Public Area Inspectorate". They are official persons who can carry out identity check.

Surcharges:

  • HUF 8,000 on the spot fine
  • HUF 2,000 pass showing fee can be paid within 8 calendar days if your pass was valid on the day of surcharging. Pass showing is only possible in case of photo passes.
  • HUF 16,000 surcharge is to be paid within 30 days following the surcharging.
  • HUF 32,500 surcharge + late payment fee is to be paid after 30 days.

Please keep your ticket or pass till the end of your journey, or, respectively, on the metro till you exit the metro station as our ticket inspectors can ask for it on the whole territory of the metro.
