Ikaruses in Budapest
Product data:
On November 18, 2022, a chapter closed in Budapest, after more than 50 years, the Ikarus 200 buses said goodbye to public transport. Who would have thought that almost a third of the operation of the united Budapest would be determined by these dark blue, wheeled "giant blocks". Almost everyone has memories related to them; millions of passengers traveled on them, tens of thousands of drivers and maintenance workers worked with them. The number of kilometers traveled by the more than four thousand vehicles operating in Budapest is in the order of billions (!) of kilometers.
The book presents a vivid, bilingual memory of these 50 years, maintaining a balance between spectacular, light content and technical data, while authentically documenting this period. The vehicles are still with us after 50 years, as the owner of BKV, the Budapest Metropolitan Municipality, supports the preservation programs that help more vehicles to be viewed - hopefully for as long as possible - while in operation, but also in public collections, and Private collectors are also making serious efforts to maintain and preserve some Ikarus buses. Special mention should be made of those private individuals who, sparing no money or energy, even in difficult times, personally stood up and sacrificed for the preservation and rescue of some iconic buses. Some of these have since once again enriched the BKV nostalgia fleet.
