The Big Book of Hungarian Locomotive Manufacturing

Product data:

The rail vehicle manufacturing industry, which developed after the Austro-Hungarian reconciliation, played an important role in the country's economy. In addition to meeting the needs of the rapidly expanding railway network, Hungarian-built railway vehicles appeared on the railways of Europe and other continents. The names of eminent specialists such as Zsigmond Kordina,Kálmán Kandó and György Jendrassik were known to the world. The Hungarian railway industry provided the first three-phase AC traction system in the history of technology, the first industrial frequency phase-changing traction system known as the Kandó system, and four continents became familiar with railcars and motor trains powered by Ganz-Jendrassik diesel engines.

The author of the book has been active in the field of railway vehicle manufacturig for nearly half a century, and his work on railway history has also become widely known internationally. With this book he wanted to fill a long-standing gap; after the well-known descriptions of individual railways and vehicle types, a comprehensive work has been written with an overview of the history and characteristics of the Hungarian railway vehicle manufacturers and of all types of locomotives produced in Hungary. The book describes in an accessible way the activities of the locomotive factories and workshops beyond the production of railway vehicles and all types of locomotives in Hungary, from the huge Mallet or electric locomotives to the tiny traction vehicles serving the clay pits of brickworks.
