Two tickets in one go – BKV is about to issue combined tickets for the Buda Castle Funicular and riverboats from March

2025-02-28 11:38:00

From 1 March, passengers interested in the sights of the capital city can travel on the Buda Castle Funicular, which is on the UNESCO World Heritage List, and on the BKV sightseeing boats offering a unique panorama of Budapest, with a new, affordable combined ticket.

The Buda Castle Funicular, originally known as the Buda Hill Railway, began operating 155 years ago, in 1870. The means of transport, which was powered by steam engines at opening, has been modernized several times over the past century and a half. As a result of the complete track and vehicle reconstruction that took place between August 2021 and February 2022, the Funicular, which has been powered by electric engines for quite some time, meets the strictest technical and accident prevention requirements, and the carriages revive the atmosphere of bygone eras with flawless aesthetics.

The lower terminus of the Funicular, the Clark Ádám tér station, popular with both domestic and foreign tourists, is an easy walk from the BKV Várkert Bazár (Castle Garden Bazaar) pier. BKV's riverboats have been operating between Kossuth Lajos tér and Petőfi tér since summer 2024, and while cruising around downtown Budapest, they show the capital city's magnificent views, historical sites, and outstanding architectural works from a unique perspective. The cruise stops at the Margaret Island Centennial Monument, Batthyány tér and the Várkert Bazár (Castle Garden Bazaar) piers, and moves between them in a hop-on, hop-off manner.

From 1st March, the two popular services can be used with a combined ticket as follows:

Ticket prices:

Full-price return ticket for the Funicular + Riverboat (round trip) ticket: HUF 6,500

Reduced price (for ages 3-14) return ticket for the Funicular + Riverboat (round trip) ticket: HUF 2,500

Tickets can be purchased at the ticket offices of the lower and upper stations of the Funicular, or onboard the riverboats, using bank cards only, and are not valid for BKV evening sightseeing riverboat tours. The tickets can be used for thirty days, so there is no need to worry if you cannot fit the Funicular and the Danube cruise in one day due to the many attractions.
