The BKV festive fleet is to set off – six ’light trams’ will run simultaneously on one line
BKV will launch its light fleet at 5 p.m. on November 28, then the sparkling caravan will set off on Nagykörút so that they can be seen together for the first and last time during the Advent season before each one begins its journey on one of the capital's tram lines. The light trams are scheduled to run until January 6, the light boat until December 30, and the Santa Claus bus until December 23.
Six light trams, one light cogwheel tram, one light boat, and the Santa Claus bus make up BKV's festive fleet this year. The goal was to have as many vehicle types operated by BKV as possible represented, so seven different types of trams will receive festive decorations: the classic Light Tram, the UV tram, a KCSV-7, a TW6000, a T5C5K2, a Ganz articulated tram, a Combino, and one cogwheel tram. The BKV's 100-type boat on the Danube is also part of the light fleet, and the Santa Claus bus will also join the festive vehicles. For the first time, this year BKV will decorate an Ikarus 280 articulated bus. In addition, the company has many other new features in mind.
A never-before-seen parade of lights on the Nagykörút
After the grand opening ceremony, at around 5:45 p.m., six light trams will depart from the Hungária tram depot and head towards Nagykörút, and at Blaha Lujza tér, they will join tram lines 4 and 6 and head towards Újbuda-központ, making two rounds on tram line 4 between Újbuda-központ and Széll Kálmán tér. Passengers can board the light trams at the Hidegkuti Nándor Stadium and the Asztalos Sándor utca stop, after which the fleet will first stop at Rákóczi tér, and from there it will be possible to get on and off at every stop. It is not possible to board the T5C5K2 train on this line. The ’light parade’ on the Nagykörút will offer a dazzling experience never seen before, as this is the first time that all the light trams can be seen at once on a single line. On the other days of Advent, until January 6, each light vehicle will operate on a different line.
Working together for those in need
The BKV light fleet not only offers a spectacular sight and a unique travel experience but also provides an opportunity to support those in need. In cooperation with Caritas Hungary, BKV makes donating possible in modern, fast, and easily accessible way to all passengers. The organization's Advent aid program can be supported via QR codes placed on the vehicles of the light fleet. The company is confident that the magic of the light fleet and the ease of donating will encourage many people to contribute, even with a small amount, to make Christmas a real celebration for everyone.
Light fleet schedule
The festive fleet vehicles can be used at normal fares. The light boat's fares and schedule are available on the BKV website, and the current schedule for all the decorated vehicles is available at https://bkk.hu/unnepijaratok in Hungarian. The light trams are scheduled to run until January 6, the light boat until December 30, and the Santa Claus bus until December 23.
