Several sections of the Buda tramway to be renewed
BKV continues to modernize the capital’s tram network. Starting from 26 July, renovation works will begin in District XII, affecting tram lines 56, 61, and 59. This phase will include upgrades to the Kútvölgyi út crossing and the curved tracks at Liptó utca and Lejtő utca, resulting in quieter and more comfortable trams, as well as tracks more resistant to heavy loads. Throughout the construction period, Észak-budai Szent János Centrumkórház will remain accessible by tram, and traffic on Szilágyi Erzsébet fasor will follow the same patterns as during previous closures.
The renovation of the Kútvölgyi út tram crossing will begin on 26 July and is expected to last until 31 August. The curved section of track at the Szilágyi Erzsébet fasor – Kútvölgyi út junction was originally constructed in 1982 to meet the standards and traffic demands of the time. Despite professional and regular maintenance, the heavy load has significantly deteriorated the track, requiring comprehensive repairs.
As with the tramway line on the Grand Boulevard, the upgrade will include the installation of a so-called circular track. This modern, noise and vibration-damped technology allows trams to run more quietly and quickly, while also reducing environmental impact. Approximately 180 meters of deteriorated track will be renewed, with new prefabricated concrete elements and completely new rails laid along this section.
Between 26 July and 14 August, two tramway curves in Buda—at the junctions of Németvölgyi út–Liptó utca and Németvölgyi út–Lejtő utca—will also be renovated. At both locations, a total of 2×81 new reinforced concrete sleepers will be installed, along with new rails to improve track reliability.
The renovation is supported by detailed traffic engineering plans, with BKV placing special emphasis on minimizing disruption for nearby public institutions and road users. As a result, access to Észak-budai Szent János Centrumkórház will remain uninterrupted, and vehicle traffic on Szilágyi Erzsébet fasor will continue as usual.

On Saturday and Sunday 2 and 3 August – and also on 9 and 10 August in case of bad weather – trams 56A and 61 will run from their terminus in South Buda only to Széll Kálmán tér.
During the renovation, replacement buses will be running between Széll Kálmán tér and Hűvösvölgy from 26 July until the end of August, replacing the trams with the 61 bus.

Farkasrét
Due to works in Liptó utca and Lejtő utca, tram 59 and 59A will be suspended from 26 July to 14 August, and from 15 August to 31 August only tram 59A will run all day between Márton Áron tér and Széll Kálmán tér.
From 26 July to 14 August, replacement buses will run between Széll Kálmán tér and Gazdagréti tér with the 59 bus. Between Márton Áron tér and Gazdagréti tér, buses will run on the same route as the 8E buses.
BKV is taking special care to ensure that the renovation works cause as little inconvenience as possible for passengers and residents in the area. The company thanks residents and passengers for their patience and understanding.
