No one was injured in the fire

A bus caught fire and burnt out in the centre of Budapest on Wednesday morning. No one was injured in the accident. BKV is investigating with the authorities what caused the fire.

On 13 August 2025 at 11:33 am a fire broke out in the engine compartment of a bus No 16 at the intersection of József Attila and Nádor streets in District V (downtown). The driver of the bus immediately dismounted every passengers and informed the emergency services. The fire spread to the building next to the bus and to one of the traffic lights. The fire was extinguished by the emergency services at 12:41 pm. The bus was eventually completely burnt out. No one was injured in the accident.

BKV is investigating with the authorities what caused the fire. While the fire was being extinguished and the scene was being investigated, the emergency services closed József Attila Street and buses No 15, 16, 105, 178, 210 and 216 were diverted towards Elisabeth Bridge.
