BKV is testing domestic electric buses

2025-04-11 12:15:00

BKV will test both the solo and articulated versions of the Credo Electronell bus family on three lines in Budapest for three days. Electric buses play an important role in modernising the capital city's rolling stock, and BKK service providers can gain useful experience in the context of such tests, while travelling on the new vehicles will be free of charge.

According to the plans, the solo Credobus Electronell 12 will operate on the 210/210B line, and the articulated Electronell 18 on the 8E line, as extra-scheduled services. The exact details are already available in BudapestGO, and the test operation will last for three days.

Increased operational ease
The two Credobus Electronells can be deployed in Budapest by the offer of Kravtex Kft. The experimental electric buses of Kravtex, manufactured according to the designs of chief designer Imre Szombath, are being manufactured in Mosonmagyaróvár, and the key to their economic efficiency is the 19.5" wheel size and the optimization of every point of the frame structure with the technology of Kühne, also from Mosonmagyaróvár.
According to the manufacturer, the solo Electronell 12 can be at least 1.5 tons lighter, and the articulated Electronell 18 up to 3 tons lighter than electric buses of similar capacity. Thus, the Credobus models need approximately 25 percent fewer batteries to ensure the appropriate range. The economical operation and increased passenger capacity are also backed by the new-generation traction inverter and the efficient traction motor.

The bus fleet is constantly rejuvenating
The strategic goal of BKV is to be a company that provides safe, reliable, sustainable and competitive public transport services. With this in mind, the company monitors the 21st century developments in bus manufacturing and consistently modernises its rubber-wheeled vehicle fleet. In 2025, the rolling stock will be expanded with 65 brand new buses. Around eight percent of the bus fleet will be renewed by low-floor, air-conditioned, maximidi-sized vehicles with modern comfort and safety equipment, and in the near future, BKV plans to announce tenders for new solo and articulated buses.

Budapest is electrifying
BKK is committed to more efficient and cleaner public transport. That is why, from 2025, in addition to BKV's 65 leased maximidi buses, 240 new solo and articulated buses will arrive in Budapest, 90 of which will be electric. In addition to 51 new CAF trams, BKK is also organizing the delivery of 48 trolleybuses also suitable for self-driving operational mode, while a conditional public procurement is also in progress, for which a commitment will have to be made for 40 trolleybuses out of the 160-unit budget.

By testing Electronell buses and using the mobile FUTÁR on-board unit, both passengers and BKV and BKK can gain enriching experience with new technologies. It is important to note the unique feature of the test operation; i. e. that the experts can frequently take the prototypes out of traffic. Often with the simple aim to examine special situations, either on the vehicle or in a controlled environment, in the workshop.
Travelling by the electric buses appearing on routes 210/210B and 8E will be free of charge.
