FARES
From 1st January 2008
Tickets and passes are valid on all tram-, metro- and trolleybus lines, on the Millennium Underground and the cogwheel railway but on HÉV suburban railway only within the administrative boundaries of Budapest. On bus lines: tickets are valid on the whole length of the lines, but Budapest all-line passes are valid only to the first stop outside Budapest.
Budapest unified/combined passes (BEB passes) are valid on all lines of BKV Ltd. and on allotted lines of MÁV-START Zrt. (Hungarian Railways) and VOLÁN (yellow buses) beyond Budapest.
Single tickets can be purchased from ticket vending machines, at the cashiers' at metro - and HÉV stations and on the main traffic points in Budapest, at newsagents' and at every Post Office in Budapest and in the suburb.
Tickets with a metal stripe can be used even years after the purchase regardless of the price printed on them.
Pre-purchased one-day travel cards, three-day travel cards, seven-day travel cards, family tickets and passes can be redeemed before the starting day.

THE MOST IMPORTANT CHANGES FROM 2008
Single tickets, transfer tickets, tickets of the discount coupon book, family tickets and the conurbation tickets cannot be used on the night service network. The single tickets bought on the spot / ticket for night service (HUF 350) are valid at night too, they can be purchased from our employees at the entrances of the stations, from ticket controllers, from vending machines and at our cashiers.
The monthly passes can be purchased with any starting day and are valid until 24.00 on the previous day of the starting day in the next month.
If holders of monthly passes are controlled without their passes on them they have only two opportunities a year to show their passes afterwards in BKV offices if they have no outstanding debts on previous fines (holders of the yearly passes have no limitation in showing their passes afterwards). The passes shown have to be valid one day before and on the day of fining.
